U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks has confirmed he is succeeding the late Rep. John Murtha as chairman of the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending.

"I'm the next senior person. Because of Jack's death, I will be the acting chairman," Dicks told KIRO Radio Tuesday morning.

Murtha died Monday at age 77 after suffering complications from gallbladder surgery. The Pennsylvania Democrat was head of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee since 1989. Dicks, 69, a Democrat from Belfair, has sat on the committee since 1979.

George Behan, Dicks' chief of staff, said Monday that there's no timeframe on when the change could take place, but that it would likely happen soon. He says the Appropriations Committee would have to agree to it, as would the House Democratic caucus. Dicks would have to give up his post leading an environmental spending panel, but would remain on the committee.

Question – What is the difference between a liberal and a puppy?

Answer -A puppy stops whining after it grows up.

Question – Who was the first liberal Democrat?

Answer -Christopher Columbus. He left not knowing where he was going, got there not knowing where he was, left there not knowing where he’d been and did it all on borrowed money.

Why would you call Norm Dicks a traitor? He's one of the strongest proponents of national defense that has a (D) next to his name. You must be thinking about Baghdad Jim.
